Being What You Want To Be Is Hard, Not Impossible! – The Kylie Jenner Story

By Staff Feministaa in Editor's Pick 24/07/2018

I Want to Be an Inspiration for Young Girls

Always clear in her mind, Kylie Jenner, a reality star, a social media icon to influencers, a member of pop culture’s famous Kardashian/Jenner family, and much more today, had no particular way to follow at the beginning, but to follow her heart. ‘Find yourself by doing what you want’ became the ‘mantra’ of her life and she wanted every woman to understand this simple trick to find their deserved places in the society.

Since childhood, Jenner witnessed both the positive and negative sides of being in the spotlight. Where on one side she realised that she could influence a lot of people using her fame, on the other, she was dealing with different kinds of bullying and criticism.

“Everything I do, there’s a huge light on it. Since I was nine, I’ve been in the spotlight and that comes with so much bullying and attacking.”

Jenner knew that she couldn’t eliminate any one of them while growing. However, the dream of creating her own identity was powerful enough for her to accept praise and criticism both and still keep moving forward. She became prominent through the reality series, Keeping Up With The Kardashians…. but that was not it. She took that advantage to launch her own business ventures which included the successful cosmetics line, Kylie Cosmetics. Within a short period of time, she earned millions from sales of her signature Kylie Lip Kit.

With the huge success of Kylie Cosmetics, Jenner gained a massive social media following and Time Magazine added another feather to her crown by listing her as one of the Most Influential Teens in 2015.

I’m figuring out exactly what I want to do and becoming the businesswoman that I always wanted to be.

Though Jenner was focused on the achievements, she could never forget the bullying that came along her way.

I was bullied all the time.

Remembering the taunts for coming from a famous family in her school days to getting judged by the critics and public for every step she took, Jenner decided to use her fame again and do something about it. She realised that there are other victims of bullying out there who need to know that they are not alone and need the support to fight against it.

Within no time she used this visibility to start a campaign on the social media site against bullying #IAmMoreThan. On Sept. 1, 2015, Jenner began posting photos as part of the campaign, sharing stories of a few victims of bullying. The campaign featured the personal stories of six people who turned their painful experiences of being bullied into something creative, something positive.

The first story was of Renee DuShane,  a 21-year-old college student who was born with Pfeiffer Syndrome, a genetic disorder where the bones in her face couldn’t fuse correctly. She went through a surgery when she was born so that her brain could grow. As she faced real hard time dealing with all the negative comments she got, staying strong and keep loving became her life’s motto.

Like Renee, Jenner met and spoke to the other victims personally and fell in love with their inspiring life stories. From  Erica Schenk, the first plus-size model to be featured on the cover of a fitness magazine to Jacob and Anthony, two best friends, a straight boy and his gay best friend who went to prom together, Jenner started posting a new photo and corresponding caption story every day and got mesmerized by the huge responses from her followers. She also encouraged her fans to come up and share their own stories with her so that they can also be a part of this campaign.

With thousands of posts on Instagram using the hashtag, Jenner got the idea that #IAmMoreThan movement wasn’t going away too soon and she couldn’t be happier.

I wanted to take a different approach and pretty much let other people use my platform and just kind of bring awareness to it.”

Today, Kylie Jenner has proven that she is not only the famous member of the Kardashian family but also a leading entrepreneur, a socialite, a model, and a successful social media personality.

In a lot of interviews, Jenner has admitted that she missed out a lot of normal teenage life moments because of her family status, and she thinks it would be great if she got to experience an ordinary life like her friends. But, these thoughts couldn’t break her determination as she always knew that she has got this life for a reason and she wanted to utilize it well.

I’ve never been to a concert with my friends. So there’s a lot of stuff I’ve missed out on.

Attention, criticism, judgments, these are all part of the lifestyle Jenner has chosen and she knows it better than anyone else. Still, the only thing she wants people to remember about her is how she wanted to help people become better human beings and inspired all women out there to live for themselves.

It wasn’t just getting your lips done and having good hair, but being a good person and inspiring other people to not bully other people and do good things and be nice to everybody.”
