An Open Letter to my Future Husband

If I would have found you, I wouldn’t write this today

I know that you might be very different from what I imagine you to be , but nonetheless, I would want you to get acquainted with a few things before we embark on a journey of a lifetime.

We have a long way to go and many milestones to get through, from our honeymoon to our child’s first bday to our 25th anniversary to the day our child leaves for college and many more. I hope to see all these events with you in good health. So, you should know how important it is for you to take care of yourself. Don’t take your health for granted, you need to work out and make sure you eat right, not always but most of the times. When I give you that broth soup and the unstirred jar of carrot juice, just remember that it’s my love for you. Your good health and wellbeing will help us reach those milestones, we have a long way to

When I tell you, “I need to talk”, don’t keep me waiting. When I want to talk, it means my heart is in pain.

My emotions help me breathe and if you don’t want my emotions to smother me, help me breathe. Listening to me won’t do any wrong, we might just solve a problem. You need to make me want to trust you with my emotions, because we have a long way to go.

When I tell you, “ I want a vacation “, this means something serious is up. No, I don’t want any champagne showers in a beach club !!

A fruitful vacation for me is spending quality time with you. Work, family and the routine would leave me craving for your time. I need a break, but a break with you and not from you. I want to hold your hand and sit on a beach chair while watching the beautiful sunset. I want to finish a bottle of wine talking about the crappiest movies we have watched and repeating the lamest jokes . This is the definition of an ideal vacation with you. So, when time comes, take me to a place which is serene and romantic. You need to keep the romance alive all the time because we have a long way to go.

When my career takes a toll on me and I tell you that “I want to quit”, don’t you dare support me!

I want you to be my inspiration, I want you to support, encourage and motivate me when I get suffocated with these lethal thoughts. You should make me realise the importance of creating my own identity and how I should not take my talent, time and experience for granted. I want you to push me to become better and better with time. You have to do this for me because we have a long way to go.

When I say, “ This is getting too much”, that means you need your shoes ready.

No, I don’t want you to run away from me, I need you to hug me as tightly and kiss me with all that passion you have left intact. You have to make me feel better. Don’t argue with me and turn this into a fight, all I need is some warmth. I want to lean on your shoulders and make sure I get that Belgium dark chocolate ice-cream in my hands as soon as possible. That will make me feel better. So, now you know my poison. Remember that because we have a long way to go.

When I say, “Leave me alone”, don’t take a step backward. Rather, take two steps forward and hold me close to you, to tell me that you will never ever leave my side.

The truth lies in the irony behind this statement,  because this time I really do need you. No matter what I say to you when we fight, it doesn’t mean that I have stopped loving you. My fight with you is an attempt either trying to defend myself or trying to prove a point which I will never refrain from doing.  Fights, arguments, and other unnecessary hurdles might hit us with some small dents, but we cannot stop trying to make it work,  because we have a long way to go.

Now, since my list is almost coming to an end, let me tell you the most important thing. You have to make me want to trust you and most importantly, make me want to fall in love with you again and again. Time will test us and I am ready to face everything with you, but when I get tired, you will have to lift me and carry me because we have a long way to go.
