“Rape is a more heinous crime than murder since the rape victim dies throughout the period she lives.” These words by esteemed author and professor Amit Abraham, summarises the trauma a rape survivor goes through.
Rape is just not an assault to one’s body but towards one’s mind and soul.
For any person who has been a victim to any sexual abuse, it becomes hard for them to retain their day-to-day lives.
Realising this, two therapists Ann Burgess and Lynda Holmstorm coined the term, “Rape Trauma Syndrome,” which is based on a group of emotional, physical and behavioural reactions as reported by victims of attempted or completed sexual assaults.
They noticed in their study that the victims go through a wide range of emotions following a rape which not only affect them physically but also mentally and as a result they tend to loose the normalcy in their lives. But amongst all the changes, one that was commonly seen in many rape victimised women, was the fear towards sex or any kind of physical intimacy. It was noticed that most of the women were so traumatised by their experiences that they feared any physical touch.
Most of the women complained that even if they wanted to regain their sexual stability and if they tried taking help of pornography for that, all they could regain is the insane experience that they went through as most of the porn films are simply male oriented, violent and misogynistic.
Pawan Amara, who was herself raped while she was in her teenage, now one of the top inspiring women, found an online portal known as, “The Clit List,” which is a part of her, “My Body Back Project” and is aimed at helping women reclaim their bodies after going through any sexual assault.
What is “The Clit List”
The Clit List is not any porn website but is a list of feminist porn movies for people who like to explore their sexuality using feminist, non-misogynistic erotic resources. The Founder Pawan Amara said in an interview that after people discussed their experiences in “My Body Back Project”, she realised that something like “The Clit List” was really needed that could cater to the needs of sexual assault survivors or the people who do not want to watch patriarchal and misogynistic forms of pornography.
“The Clit List” was really needed that could cater to the needs of sexual assault survivors or the people who do not want to watch patriarchal and misogynistic forms of pornography.
What “The Clit List Does”
Amara said that it is difficult to identify what people would really like to see and what not. It could be a sensitive issue for the target audience so they had to be cautious of what went on the database.
So the list comprises of porn movie reviews which aim to cover a wide variety of sexual interests but all the content that is considered to be violent, objectifying, or patriarchal is omitted.
So “The Clit List” has a wide variety of feminist porn movies, their reviews and the websites you could watch them on.
The Clit List was found in the year 2014 and has been widely appreciated by people for it’s motive and work.

The Clit List is no less than any health and fitness blog for women who have survived sexual assaults and want to re-live their lives in the same way they used to live. There have been many success stories of women entrepreneurs, but Pawan Amara’s story is truly an inspirational one. “The Clit List” and Amara are both an examples of the fact that Rape cannot kill you or your spirit so NEVER give up!
